These Jobs Destroy Your Health The Most Posted: 16 Oct 2016 11:34 PM PDT

The type of job you choose to do can have a huge impact on your health. Whether it’s a white-collar job, creative, professional or mundane job, each and every profession has its own unique set of risks. Some jobs have dangerous working conditions while others have a severe negative effect on mental and physical health because of high level of stress, depressing work environment and long hours put into the job. Healthcare Workers
It is ironical that healthcare workers that are tasked with making everyone sound and healthy are exactly the ones that can’t do the same for themselves because of the hazards of their jobs. Healthcare Workers including doctors, nurses, medical laboratory scientists and pharmacists face a lot of stress since they have to be on calls and shifts. These threats include elevated stress hormones, increased sleep disorders, heart disease, increased risks of diabetes and irritable bowel syndrome. Health care workers that work long hours and participate in fewer physical activity are at greatest risk. Law Enforcement
This includes the police force, civil defense and any other agencies responsible for keeping law and order. These professions have a high rate of on-the-job fatalities, injuries and illnesses which is why a stipend is paid as ‘hazard fees’ to people that work in these fields. Furthermore, law enforcement officers that are first responders to emergency situations have a very stressful job. Research has shown that a lot of law enforcement officers die of heart attacks on the job mostly because they have to be on high alert all the time and the unpredictable situations they have to face daily. This job also requires long hours, sleep deprivation, and most workers in this field also have poor eating habits which is usually a big threat to workers in this field. 9 to 5 Office Workers
While there may not be an immediate danger for Nine-to-fivers as compared to a health workers or soldier, there however exists growing evidence that living a sedentary lifestyle that is mostly restricted indoors can be a threat to long-term health and wellness. Sitting for between 5 to 6 hours has been linked to a shorter lifespan span, obesity, back pain, repetitive stress injuries and an increased risk of heart disease even among people who exercise before going to work.
The best way to protect yourself is to take frequent breaks during the course of work. Get outside for fresh air and a brisk walk for a few minutes in between work to stay healthy. Long Distance Drivers
Intercity bus drivers that drive long distances are exposed to higher risks of injuries and illnesses than other occupations in this category. Intercity bus, truck, and taxi drivers are at the wheels for long hours and will usually breath in unhealthy dust and fumes. More so, because truck drivers may have to spend days on the road, they are prone to eating unhealthy fast food. Drivers are also prone to Sleep problems and on-the-job sleepiness. The biggest threat of all is road traffic accidents which is the leading cause of workplace fatalities. Lawyers
The law profession seems to have the Highest rates of stress and depression among all members of the general public. A survey conducted in 2007 in the US found out that only four out of every 10 lawyers will recommend the career to anyone. Back here in Nigeria, it is quite tough for Lawyers to get jobs and those that do usually have to work long hours to satisfy their chambers. Young professionals have very little autonomy if they are even successful enough to get a job. Manual labourers
Manual labourers that lift heavy objects and drive heavy machinery are at risk of bad health. It is estimated that about 32 thousand cases of on the job injuries occurred in Nigeria among labourers and factory workers in 2015.
The traditional areas of manual labour that are hazardous include factory, mining, farming and agriculture. Factory workers seem to have the highest risk for manual labourers, while other areas make up smaller portions than they used to be. Soldiers
The military profession involves extreme physical demands and most people enlisted in the army, navy or airforce constantly have to make a life and death decision while staying long periods away from family and friends.
Furthermore, bullying and psychological abuse from superiors and peers happens a lot in the military which puts a lot of mental and physical strain on soldiers. Also, Soldiers are also prone to post-traumatic stress disorder and other problems. A study conducted in the United States of America in 2012 found suicide rates to be higher among active military personnel and that it rose sharply between 2004 and 2008. Two days ago, two policemen were killed in the state and now gunmen have struck again killing three policemen in Imo state. The three policemen were killed while on duty and the gunmen took away four of the rifles belonging to the police team. The incident occurred in Atta, Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state on the Owerri-Okigwe Expressway. A source told reporters that the policemen were attacked immediately they arrived the area, as three of them were killed. “The gunmen must have laid in ambush for the policemen at the spot because immediately they arrived the area, the men began shooting at them. Karius: Liverpool Are Ready To Face United Posted: 16 Oct 2016 01:08 PM PDT

Loris Karius is insisting Liverpool hold no fear for Manchester United as they prep to play them on Monday at Anfield. Liverpool are three points ahead of Manchester United on the log. And Klopp will be hoping his men can widen the gulf. Mane: Liverpool Will Beat Manchester United Karius expects a tight encounter, but has stressed Liverpool are ready for the task at hand. “Manchester United are a good, strong team but we have a great team and we play at home,” Karius told Premier League Productions. “We have respect for them but we are not scared of them and we know we want to win the game. “We will have a good plan – or more than one plan – so we will be well prepared. Monday night at Anfield, the fans will be behind us, so I think everyone is looking forward to it. “It will be a big game and I think it will be a close game.” The post Karius: Liverpool Are Ready To Face United appeared first on
Mane: Liverpool Will Beat Manchester United Posted: 16 Oct 2016 12:55 PM PDT

Sadio Mane is confident in Liverpool’s recent form, so much so, he has tagged them winners of the upcoming encounter against Manchester United. Both teams will play each other for the first time this season, with Liverpool playing host to the Red Devils. But Mane is confident of increasing that margin by helping the Reds to a sixth consecutive victory in all competitions. “We are going to beat Manchester United,” Mane told the Daily Telegraph. He added: “Of course [I think that]. We all believe it. We are going to make it.” Mane revealed that he did not regret ignoring interest from the likes of United in the summer of 2015 before deciding to leave Southampton for Liverpool a year later. “In honesty, there were some clubs interested at that time but I never made any choices then,” he explained. “I did not say I thought of any club and I wanted to play there. That kind of interest gave me a lot confidence on the pitch and made me believe in myself, but I knew this was because of my hard work and I was in a good way. “Ronald Koeman was not happy with all the rumours because he wanted me to stay, but it was not too complicated because for me, also, it was not time to go. “When I spoke to him I told him, ‘No problem, I will stay’. It was my decision. I wanted to stay at Southampton. “I was patient because I remember after the first year [in England] I knew it was better to focus on Southampton. In my head I thought I would be there a couple more years and prove something. “I was convinced I still had to prove something, improve more and learn more before I moved to a bigger club. But then I knew when the right time was for me. “The extra year helped me get better, and it is important for every player to go step by step. “It was only when Liverpool came in that I never had a second thought and knew I wanted to join. It was different because then was the right moment for me. “I finally came to Liverpool and I was happy with that, and now I’m happy I am playing against Manchester United.” The post Mane: Liverpool Will Beat Manchester United appeared first on
Haye: I Need Just One Punch To KO Bellew Posted: 16 Oct 2016 11:35 AM PDT

Former world heavyweight champion, David Haye is confident he can penetrate Tony Bellew’s defence, which he has described as leaky. WBC Cruiserweight champion Bellew challenged the heavyweight after defending his title, saying he has a score to settle with him. Haye has studied Bellew and is confident he can destroy the boxer with just one punch. Haye told Sky Sports: “Bellew has dynamite in his fists but would that work on me? I don’t think so. “He was taking a few big shots in the process, his defence was leaky. Against me, that’d take one shot. “I’ve been a heavyweight for eight or nine years. If he wants to come up, it’s an easy night’s work. “I’ll probably knock him out with a jab.” Bellew had earlier said: “The last two guys you fought are working on nightclub doors, or they’re putting the bins out. “With ten ounce gloves on, I’ll put you and your pathetic haircut to sleep.” Haye, a former WBA heavyweight champion, ended a four-and-a-half year hiatus from the ring this year and is next scheduled to box on December 10. Aston Villa are keen to sign Jordan Rhodes on loan from Middlesbrough, according to The Sun. New boss Steve Bruce is said to be working on a January deal for Rhodes which would see Boro receive a bonus if the Villans gain promotion, as the former Hull City manager looks to mould the Villa squad. The 26-year-old striker signed for Middlesbrough in the last January transfer window but has struggled to adjust to life in the North East, making only two starts for Aitor Karanka’s side since their promotion to the top tier. It is also claimed Villa want to acquire the services of Rhode’s uncle, Middlesbrough assistant manager Steve Agnew. Agnew, however, is said to be happy working under Karanka and not interested in completing a reunion with Bruce, after the pair worked together at Hull. AC Milan officials have reportedly travelled to Chelsea in their quest to lure Cesc Fabregas to the Serie A side. According to Tuttosport, Rossoneri began talks with Chelsea on Saturday, as they look to sign the 29-year-old in January. The midfielder does not appear to be part of Antonio Conte’s plans at Stamford Bridge, making just one start for the Blues since the Italian took charge at the start of the season. Directors Marco Fassone and Massimiliano Mirabelli were reportedly at Chelsea to discuss the Fabregas’ situation, with the club considering him a potential replacement for the injured Riccardo Montolivo. Tottenham To Make Bid For Lukaku In January  Posted: 16 Oct 2016 10:21 AM PDT

Tottenham are keen to sign Lazio full-back Jordan Lukaku in January, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato. Mauricio Pochettino’s side are reportedly considering an 11 million euros offer for the Belgium international, who is the brother of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku. Last month we reported  that London rivals Chelsea were  lining up a £20m for Davies, who joined Spurs from Swansea City back in the summer of 2014 as Mauricio Pochettino’s first signing ..  Now,  Spurs are lining up left backs in case Davies is sold, with some ‘doubts about his suitablity’ as Rose’s backup, prompting interest in Lazio’s Jordan Lukaku. Left back Lukaku – the younger brother of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku – left Oostende in his native Belgium for Lazio over the summer, and his impressive displays for the Italian side appear to be triggering interest. The 22-year-old – who featured for Belgium at Euro 2016 alongside Tottenham stars Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele – is a pacey, attack-minded left back who could offer some similar qualities to England ace Rose.
